Too much botox? Aishwarya Rai called out by ageist, sexist trolls on Cannes’ looks

For the second day at the French Riveria, the Dhoom 2 actor chose to show up as the personification of Venus – the Roman goddess of love and beauty. She wore the Indian designer Gaurav Gupta’s designed ensemble which, at its first glance, isn’t revealing of its inspiration. However, at a close look, it does explain the halo-like element behind her head as the shell that Venus rises from Botticelli’s famous painting; The Birth Of Venus.

The designer decoded Bachchan’s look in his Instagram post and wrote, “Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wears The Venus Sculpture; a custom Gaurav Gupta Couture gown for the 75th Festival de Cannes. Inspired by the birth of Venus, the goddess of beauty and love, rising from the scalloped shell; she transitions from the infinite, pure as a pearl.”

Whether it is Twitter or the comment section underneath her pictures, fans have taken a personal dig and the comments go far away from her sartoria choice, and control for that matter. From rude ageist comments to unwarranted jibes at her “plastic” beauty, here’s how the Devdas actor became the subject of critique.
