Why Mirror Facing the Bed is Not Recommended by Sleep Experts

So many experts have warned that sleeping with a mirror opposite your bed could be causing a number of problems, from ghoulish nightmares to insomnia. if you’re someone who suffers from poor sleep, it turns out that the way you arrange your bedroom furniture could have a lot to do with it – especially if you have a mirror facing your bed.

The asleep experts revealed the reflecting nature of them could be what’s keeping you from nodding off – and you should seriously consider the layout of the space too. According to the expert, mirrors reflect energy and light around the room and having these opposite a window can make it hard to sleep.

Additionally having a mirror opposite your bed can promote having nightmares, according to feng shui experts – which makes a lot of sense to be honest, given the number of bedroom mirrors that appear in creepy exorcism films. “Avoid having any large mirrors reflecting you whilst you sleep as these activate the energy and can cause a disturbance with sleep.” an expert said.

Feng Shui Consequences

There are many different schools of feng shui, each with different guidelines and perspectives. Sometimes they even contradict each other. For example, you might read somewhere that it’s bad feng shui to have your desk facing a certain way, and then the next day, you might read the opposite.

Here are three of the most popular concepts (or myths) about what might happen to us if we have a mirror facing the bed that we sleep in.

  1. Many experts say that a mirror facing the bed promotes the intrusion of a third party into the couple’s relationship and possibly encourage infidelity. This is because the reflection of the mirror doubles the energy and luck of those sleeping on the bed, and one of that luck is romance.
  2. Most experts also say that a mirror facing the bed depletes your personal energy and creates sleeplessness. Because the mirror doubles and bounces all sorts of energy, it disrupts the tranquillity needed in a bedroom for better sleep.
  3. Experts say that a mirror reflecting the bed brings nightmares. An explanation for this is that when we sleep at night, our soul leaves the body. When the soul sees its own reflection, it gets startled, hence the bad dreams and nightmares.

Regardless of the feng shui school, if a mirror in your bedroom makes you feel uncomfortable or worried, you should pay attention to that. Feng shui, like most things, is not a one-size-fits-all approach, and it’s important to trust your own instincts. A mirror facing the bed may feel great for your best friend, but it might not be the best choice for you.
