‘All Of Us Are Dead’ Hits No. 1 On Netflix In New Milestone For Korean Series

Netflix, Inc. is an American subscription streaming service and production company. Launched on August 29, 1997, it offers a library of films and television series through distribution deals as well as its own productions, known as Netflix Originals. As of December 31, 2021, Netflix had over 221.8 million subscribers worldwide, including 75.2 million in the United States and Canada, 74.0 million in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, 39.9 million in Latin America, and 32.7 million in Asia-Pacific. It is available worldwide aside from Mainland China (due to local restrictions), Iran, Syria, North Korea, and Crimea (due to US sanctions). Netflix has played a prominent role in independent film distribution and is a member of the Motion Picture Association (MPA).

Since Korean entertainment became a worldwide phenomenon, there have been more and more dramas and movies to check out, actors to fall in love with, and articles urging you to watch the latest Korean hit. Luckily for anyone who’s caught up (and sorry for those whose lists are just growing), Netflix has already released the beginning of this year’s Korean TV lineup. Another new series, All of Us are Dead, is also growing on the viewers across the globe. As a result, the zombie thriller film has become the second Korean series to reach the No. 1 mark in Netflix’s United States list. The Asian country has become the first nation to have two shows that reached this milestone, thus establishing a record.

Just Four months ago, Squid Game climbed to No. 1 on Netflix’s U.S. daily Top 10 list en route to becoming the streamer’s most-watched original series ever. But Now another Korean drama, All of Us Are Dead, has accomplished the feat. Which makes Korea the first country to place multiple non-English language series atop Netflix’s U.S. daily Top 10, cementing its status as the hottest supplier of local content.

Following the international popularity of shows like KingdomSweet Home, and Squid Game, Netflix is doubling down on the themes and stars that have put Korean entertainment on the map. From zombie thrillers and heartwrenching romances to the return of Song Joong-ki and Park Hae-soo, here are the Korean shows on Netflix to add to your must-watch list.

Story Theme Summery

All of Us Are Dead is a South Korean coming-of-age zombie apocalypse horror streaming television series. After a science experiment goes wrong, a local school is overrun with zombies, and the trapped students struggle to survive. With no food and water, and communication cut-off by the government, they must use the equipment around the school to protect themselves in the midst of a battleground or they will become part of the infected.

A virus outbreak occurs at Hyosan High School. The infected quickly turn into human-eating zombies. Students at the high school must now fight for their lives, while they look for a way out.

Based on the popular webtoon Now at Our School, At any given moment, writer Cheon Seong-il juggles five-to-six separate subplots, none of which are boring. Nor are all of them set inside the school. Among the most interesting is the one that features a heroic detective who goes on a mission to retrieve a laptop that might hold the key to everyone’s survival. Along the way, he picks up an overzealous YouTuber, a comically cowardly ‘chowkidaar’ and a couple of children, one of whom is a newborn. In another world, they would have been our protagonists.

Lee JQ and Kim Nam-su are creators and directors; Lee JQ is showrunner, and Chun Sung-il is writer. The cast includes Park Ji-hu (Nam On-jo), Yoon Chan-young, (Lee Cheong-san), Cho Yi-hyun (Choi Nam-ra), Lomon (Lee Su-hyeok), Yoo In-soo (Yoon Gwi-nam), Lim Jae-hyeok (Yang Dae-su), and Lee You-mi (Lee Na-yeon).
