‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is Aamir Khan’s biggest flop since ‘Mela’

After collecting Rs 46 crores in its initial four-day run, the collections have plummeted further from expectations on day five. According to a report by Bollywood HungamaLaal Singh Chaddha earned in the range of Rs 1.85 to Rs 2.15 crore, bringing the total collection to Rs 48 crore in five days. The collections are even less than what Khan’s last release, Thugs of Hindostan, earned on its opening day in the cinemas. However, Thugs of Hindostan also proved to be a box office failure, showing Khan’s recent works stuck in the shallow end of the box office, being unable to impress either critics or fans.

While Laal Singh Chadda had already faced delayed releases and a social media boycott due to comments Khan has made in the past, no one could have anticipated such a drastic drop in collections, especially for a Forrest Gump remake released around the time of the Indian Independence Day.

Being called Khan’s biggest career setback since the release of Mela, the film is projected to cross the Rs 50 crore mark at the end of the first week, finishing its theatrical run at Rs 55 to 57 crores. These losses have proved to be monumental, with stakeholders and filmmakers trying to manage the crashing collections the best they can for a film made on a budget of Rs 180 crore.
