Pakistan reports more than 2,000 new cases for first time since September

Pakistan has reported 2,074 new coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours, marking the first time since September that daily infections have exceeded 2,000.

The country reported 2,060 cases on September 24.

Moreover, fatalities have also risen to double digits for the first time since December 21 when 10 deaths were confirmed.

The nationwide positivity rate has risen to 4.7 per cent.

The breakdown in the last 24 hours is as follows:

  • Sindh: 1,402 cases, 9 deaths
  • Punjab: 445 cases, 2 deaths
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 52 cases, 2 deaths
  • Balochistan: 3 cases
  • Islamabad: 165 cases
  • Gilgit Baltistan: 0 cases
  • Azad Jammu and Kashmir: 7 cases

The government’s Covid-19 portal shows that 446 more people have recovered from the virus in Pakistan, taking the country’s tally to 1,259,699.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases has crossed 20,000, of whom 628 are in critical condition.
