Get ready for longest partial lunar eclipse of the century Next Week.
The longest partial lunar eclipse of the century is just days away, the longest such eclipse in nearly 600 years.
According to NASA, it will happen overnight between November 18 and 19 when the moon slips into Earth’s shadow for about six hours. They typically last just under an hour. Additionally, this phenomenon will be covering more than 3 hours and can be noticed in many parts of the world, depending upon their time zone but it can be clearly noticed all over the USA.
Lunar eclipses occur when the moon passes into the Earth’s shadow. In this case, the partial eclipse phase will last 3 hours, 28 minutes, and 24 seconds, and the full eclipse for 6 hours and 1 minute, making it the longest partial eclipse in 580 years,
According to Holcomb in a tweet “Longest partial eclipse of the century to occur in the pre-dawn hours of November 19th. This will also be the longest partial lunar eclipse in 580 years!”
US space agency divided all the processes into four phases, In the first phase ain phases — at 1.02 a.m. EST the moon will enter the penumbra or the lighter part of the moon’s shadow which can only be observed with special equipment but not with nacked eyes. In the second phase, the moon arrives at the umbra, or the darker part of the shadow, at 2.18 a.m. EST for 3 hours. In the third part, the maximum eclipse will take place at 4.03 AM EST, when 97 percent of the moon’s face is covered by the deepest part of the Earth’s shadow will probably turn a deep red. At least part of the eclipse will be visible in North and South America, Eastern Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Region, NASA said.
NASA said “Partial lunar eclipses might not be quite as spectacular as total lunar eclipses — where the moon is completely covered in Earth’s shadow — but they occur more frequently. And that just means more opportunities to witness little changes in our solar system that sometimes occur right before our eyes,”
What a partial eclipse looks like
During a lunar eclipse, the moon darkens and sometimes takes on a reddish color. For a partial eclipse, Earth’s shadow doesn’t completely cover the moon. Partial eclipses are still fantastic experiences. Recently NASA said in skywatching “Partial lunar eclipses might not be quite as spectacular as total lunar eclipses — where the moon is completely covered in Earth’s shadow – but they occur more frequently,”
“And that just means more opportunities to witness little changes in our solar system that sometimes occur right before our eyes.”
As per timeanddate.com press release of the years, the next lunar will take place between May 15 and 16, 2022, followed by another one between Nov. 7 and 8, later that year.
