GERD (Chronic Acid Reflux) May Become The Vital Cause Of Cancer

What is Acid reflux disease? It is basically a panic condition in which stomach acid (necessary to digest the food) continuously flows back to your mouth through the esophagus. Plights like heartburn, acid indigestion, swelling trouble will be experienced by you. Acid reflux happens because a valve at the end of your esophagus, the lower esophageal sphincter, doesn’t close properly when the food arrives at your stomach. Acid backwash then flows back up through your esophagus into your throat and mouth, giving you a sour taste. According to a recent survey by Newsroom.Wiley.com,

GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) which is a vital cause of heartburn can indicate the high risk of different cancers like voice box cancer. This study found that more than 20 % American adult is now facing this GERD problem, in which stomach acid flows back to their moth and damage the tissues of food vane and voice box and resultantly increase the percentage of cancer named esophageal adenocarcinoma.

The medical experts team under the supervision of  Christian C. Abnet, Ph.D., of the National Cancer Institute has examined more than 490,605  all around the USA and found that more than 24 % of the esophageal adenocarcinoma cancer patient have a history of GERD. Over the following 16 years, after participants joined the study, 931 patients developed esophageal adenocarcinoma, 876 developed laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma, and 301 developed esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Adults who are facing GERD are actually in 2-time high-risk areas for different cancers. In the result, the report team mentioned that more than 17 people who have cancers in the larynx and esophagus are directly linked the GERD.

What do I do if I think I have GERD (chronic acid reflux)?

With GERD — when reflux and heartburn happen more than once in a while — the tissue lining your esophagus is getting battered regularly with stomach acid. Eventually, the tissue becomes damaged. If you have this chronic acid reflux and heartburn you can see it’s affecting your daily eating and sleeping habits.

When GERD makes your daily life uncomfortable in this way, call your healthcare provider. Although GERD isn’t life-threatening in itself, its chronic inflammation of the esophagus can lead to something more serious. You may need stronger prescription medications or even surgery to ease your symptoms.
