Buckle up! ‘Pasoori’ duo Ali Sethi and Shae Gill is working on something new

When asked if there’s another Ali-Shae collaboration on the cards, Gill replied, “Yes, yes there is.” Ecstatic, the host inquired if this collaboration would be something similar to Pasoori or explore a new space altogether. Sethi vowed, “We are working on something together… actually, a bunch of things together.”

The Chan Kithan crooner maintained, “And it’s going to feature a lot of artists from around the world and some very unusual pairings.” Sethi, who recently made it Time Magazine’s annual list of emerging leaders influencing the world following the success of Pasoori, shared that the song is in development, “so let’s see what happens.”

The 14th installment of Coke Studio has been praised globally for its fresh take on the celebrated show. As EP’s former frontman, Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan (Xulfi) held the reigns this year, there was one song that truly surpassed all expectations. Sethi and Gill’s Pasoori transcended borders and managed to win the hearts of fans world over.

Coke Studio Africa even dropped a rendition of the song in August, with an amalgamation of voices and beats from Nigeria and Egypt while keeping Sethi’s original lyrics in the remix alive. Featuring Nigerian Afrobeats, represented by artists Marwan Moussa and Reekado Banks, the song offered a unique collision of genres and cultures.

Writer Amitav Ghosh, in praise of Sethi’s globe-trotting hit for TIME100 Next, wrote “Though written in Punjabi by a Pakistani artist, Ali Sethi’s song Pasoori has become a global sensation with close to 400 million views on YouTube. Even more remarkable, the song has found a huge following in neighbouring India despite the escalating tensions between the two countries.”
