Babar Azam breaks Virat Kohli’s record as a captain
Babar Azam struck his 17th century against West Indies in the opening ODI of the series which helped Babar to break Virat Kohli’s record as a captain.
The world’s number one ODI batter put up a splendid display against the touring team as they were tasked with chasing down a 306-run target in the second innings. The contest came to a thrilling end which featured a remarkable effort from Khushdil Shah towards the end.
Babar’s 103-run innings from 107 deliveries helped Pakistan’s all-format captain cross the 1,000-run mark as a skipper overcoming a record set previously by India’s Virat Kohli.
Virat Kohli reached the 1,000-run mark in 17 innings whereas AB de Villiers took 18 innings and Kane Williamson 22. Babar Azam, however, broke the record as he achieved the feat in just 13 innings.
Furthermore, Babar Azam also broke another record thanks to his efforts in the first ODI; he became the first batter to score three consecutive centuries twice in their ODI career. He previously scored three centuries against West Indies in 2016.
Babar is currently ranked as the best batsman in T20I and ODI formats whereas he recently also improved his ranking in Test cricket by overtaking Kane Williamson.
